Toy Story 5 Teaser Sets Woody and Buzz Against a Tablet Computer
It has been 30 years after the original Toy Story movie debuted, establishing the animation giant as a major film company and introducing viewers to iconic characters like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, offering a brief look into the plot but leaving viewers wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Gang
In the teaser shows Bonnie — who inherited the toy collection when he grew up — getting a brand new toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She acquires her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the toys appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it likely will.
Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
An element the trailer avoids is what the sheriff is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a carnival and assisting prize toys find good homes.
Surely, the filmmakers will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him show up in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?
Continuity from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some aspects are continuing from the prior film. The final act Woody did before departing for his fresh path was pass his symbol of authority to Jessie (Joan Cusack), entrusting her in charge of the toy domain. The clip shows the insignia pinned to her outfit.
Hopefully she is still the key figure among the toys.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
